Aston Villa are looking forward to the return of the Premier League on Wednesday after their 4-1 loss to Liverpool in the FA Cup third round at Villa Park on Friday night.

The match went ahead despite a coronavirus outbreak which forced the club to close their Bodymoor Heath training center.

Nine players have tested positive for Covid-19 while five members of the coaching setup have returned positive results, meaning the entire first team, Dean Smith and his assistants are in isolation.

The youngsters faced off against Liverpool and gave it a good attempt, with Louie Barry’s goal seeing Villa at halftime at 1-1 before Jurgen Klopp’s side came out in the second half.

Next up for Villa is a Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday (8:15 p.m.) and it has been reported that the game could be in doubt.

Here is all that has been said …

What Purslow Said

Villa general manager Christian Purslow has been asked about the chances of matches against Tottenham and Everton next week.

“It is far too early to tell,” he said. “We are now obviously in the hands of Premier League medics, Public Health England and experts who will have to form their opinions on whether the outbreak has been contained. ”

Mourinho says postponement is “impossible”

“I think it’s a totally impossible situation for a club to have three matches postponed, especially if that club is playing in Europe,” Mourinho said on Friday.

Two games against Fulham need to be moved as one has been postponed and another cannot be played due to Spurs’ involvement in the Carabao Cup final.
