Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are widely regarded as two of the greatest footballers of all time, having dominated the sport over the past decade.
The duo have practically taken turns winning the coveted Ballon d’Or almost every year since 2008, with the exception of Luka Modric’s victory in 2018, between them winning 63 national trophies.

Mesut Ozil now has his say in the debate over which of the two is better, opting for his former Real Madrid teammate Ronaldo in claiming that the Portuguese superstar “has always been the best in every county he’s played in!” ”

When asked to choose between Messi and Ronaldo in a Twitter Q&A on Monday, Ozil replied: “Messi turned out to be one of the all-time best in Spain, but Ronaldo has always been the best in all the countries he has played in! ”

Ronaldo and Ozil were good friends during their time together at the Bernabeu and recent reports had linked the couple with a reunion at Juventus.

According to CBS Sports, Arsenal offered Ozil to Juventus but the Serie A giants refused to sanction the deal.

Ozil is expected to leave the Emirates either during the January transfer window or when his contract expires at the end of the season and Turkish club Fenerbahce and MLS franchise DC United have been closely linked with the 32-year-old.

Mesut Ozil spent three full seasons as Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate at Real Madrid

During his questions on Twitter, Ozil admitted that he would like to play in both Turkey and America before retiring when a fan asked him what he would do once his Arsenal deal ended.

“I’m definitely going [continue playing football]. There are two countries where I want to play football before I retire: Turkey and the United States. If I went to Turkey, I could only go to Fenerbahçe. ”

Ozil also touched on his time at the Emirate, saying: “There have been a lot of ups and downs so far, but overall I never regret my decision to join Arsenal.

“And to be honest, the last two games before the corona break in February and March 2020 were a lot of fun. I really enjoyed this period and I think we are really on a very positive path. But after the break things unfortunately changed… ”
