The Punisher logo has been adopted by a number of different groups over the years, but has grown in prominence in recent months. A former sailor, countless writers have made it clear that the Punisher is first and foremost a revenge-driven murderer, putting that above the patriotism and sense of duty he has long left behind. The punisher himself berated the police for wearing his logo, saying he had no place beside the duty to protect and serve, but that did not prevent him from appearing on the uniforms of the cops and soldiers, as well as in the Blue Lives Matter protests. and at the Capitol this weekend.

Photos were taken last week of rioters on Capitol Hill with Punisher logos on shirts, backpacks and hats. Most of these designs featured the Punisher skull on the United States flag. In the wake of the chaos that ended with the deaths of several people, comic book creators and industry voices questioned if the logo and character had been tainted and called on Marvel to do something about it. this subject.
The seditionists who invaded the Capitol today wore a Punisher logo. I say @wonder must either aggressively apply his mark so that it doesn’t get printed everywhere, or abandon the Punisher altogether. You cannot allow your characters to be used by terrorists. pic.twitter.com/CLHv243N9u

The concept has been called corrupted by NOIR artist Jamal Needles.
I do not say this lightly.
It’s time to @Wonder to put The Punisher on the pasture.
The concept is corrupted.

He wasn’t the only one asking for Frank Castle to retire.
Hey @Wonder, I love the Punisher. But this character and this symbol are corrupted forever. It’s time to retire Frank Castle.

Mitch Gerads, who was the lead artist in the 2014 Punisher series, said Marvel must remove the logo until it is no longer used as a symbol of hate.
Yes. I worked on Punisher for 20 issues (including the two written by Kevin). I designed a new skull. I designed a patch (FOR CHARITY) using it. Seeing it (thankfully not mine) used by these groups today shows Marvel must remove it until it is no longer adopted as a symbol of hate. https://t.co/vb0pa9kKxu

The social media talk offered potential solutions instead of leaving Marvel the punisher for good that would make sense if the publisher continues with the character. The first being drastically changes who the Punisher is – making him fight systemic injustice, abuse of power and whatever the rioters are against. Another option is to allow the Punisher title to switch to a colored character – as has been done with many other Marvel heroes (and even the Punisher before) – in order to deflect those who would project a racial hate theme onto the character. .
But what most people commented on Marvel should uphold its brand. They’ve never been stingy in its application before, but to prevent organizations from adopting it, they need to educate their entire legal team of the situation and start issuing bans, otherwise there’s no turning back. Either way, something has to change the punisher – Marvel can’t just sit there and do nothing, otherwise the character and his iconic logo will be corrupted forever.
