Gianluca Mancini led a late tie as Roma blocked Serie A title rivals Inter Milan with a 2-2 draw in Rome on Sunday.

Inter, second to Antonio Conte, lost more points following the end of their eight-game winning streak in midweek at Sampdoria.

The Northerners drop three points behind leaders AC Milan, who found their way to victory in the 2-0 loss to Turin on Saturday after Juventus ended their 27 league games unbeaten in the week.

Defender Mancini took the lead from a Gonzalo Villar cross with four minutes remaining to keep Roma three points behind Inter in the third.

“I think it was a good game, which played well in the first half too, against Roma who have the same goals as us and are only three points behind,” said Conte.

“Then at the end of the match, there is sometimes a certain fear of an important result that makes you give up. ”

Conte’s side fought back after Lorenzo Pellegrini gave Roma the lead just after a quarter of an hour at Stadio Olimpico.

Milan Skriniar led the equalizer 11 minutes after the break with Achraf Hakimi giving Inter the lead seven minutes later with a superb long shot that slashed the crossbar into the net.

Bryan Cristante was off the bench after 79 minutes and gave the Roma midfield some impetus.

Conter made two substitutions in the last 10 minutes, with midfielder Arturo Vidal being replaced by Roberto Gagliardini and Aleksandar Kolarov replacing Hakimi.

“Vidal was injured and asked for a replacement,” Conte said. “Hakimi also ran a lot and was losing a lot of shots and balls.

“There are substitutions and Inter have a big team so I don’t see why we shouldn’t be off the bench. ”

But the visitors couldn’t resist Roman pressure, with goalkeeper Samir Handanovic saving Inter on several occasions, denying Mancini from close before being beaten by the defender after the next corner.

“We had a good first half, but for 20 minutes of the second half we weren’t the same team,” Roma coach Paulo Fonseca said after a sixth consecutive draw between the two. teams.

“We had 15-20 minutes in the second half which were fatal. Then when Inter scored the second goal, we became the same team again.

“It’s not a physical issue with how we finished the game. ”

Fifth-placed Juventus, 10 points behind AC Milan with one game underway, are looking to close the gap against sixth-placed Sassuolo later Sunday in Turin.

Juventus and Inter will face off at San Siro next weekend, with Roma returning to Stadio Olimpico for the capital’s derby against Lazio.
