Triple H has had a rich career in WWE. But every wrestling career presents various challenges that surprise competitors. When it comes to Triple H’s full-time return to the ring for WWE in 2016, “The Game” didn’t expect that development. As a result, it turned out to be the most difficult test of his legendary career.
“The King of Kings” is one of the most iconic superstars in WWE history. He’s a future WWE Hall of Famer on the first ballot. (He was previously inducted as a member of D-Generation X.) But in 2016, he was arguably more than a decade away from his prime. Few fans expected him to regain his status as a full-time contender in 2016.
Triple H was a recent guest on WWE’s The Bump, and he discussed various topics ahead of NXT New Year’s Evil. But the hosts certainly wanted to tell “The Cerebral Assassin” about his own incredible career in WWE. His last full-time run in 2016 with the company was brought up in the conversation. Here, “The Father of NXT” made it clear that this transition was quite intimidating.
“Absolutely, because it was completely out of the blue and completely unforeseen in a way. There was a point in time with injuries and everything that was going on in the business where, you know, I kind of got to a place in my career where Vince [McMahon] would joke i was in an emergency, break the glass [guy]. So I would be sitting there with my trunks. He would say to me, “Okay. You’re my in an emergency guy’s case, we’re breaking the glass, and here’s what we’re gonna do. And you’re like, ‘Oh, my God.’ I don’t think I’ve ever done anything more difficult in my career than having times when you don’t struggle for a whole year or a long, long time. Then you go out and do whatever is at the highest level, you know, to try and add to what you’ve been doing without letting others or yourself down. It truly is one of the toughest challenges I have ever faced. The pressure was immense, ”said Triple H.
Triple H admitted that Vince McMahon always looked to him when society needed “The King of Kings”. He’s always done his best to deliver, but Triple H made no secret of the fact that it can be difficult to perform at a high level after a long hiatus.
Triple H thought he might be forced to retire before returning to WWE in 2002
2016 was not the only intimidating obstacle Triple H faced in his WWE career. Before his triumphant return from a quad injury in 2002, he wondered if he would ever be able to wrestle again.
“It’s hard to put words to the trip at this point because, you know, there was a high probability that I couldn’t get into a fight again. Coming back and having the comeback I had at Madison Square Garden, and the reaction I had was great. The challenge was: how to take advantage of it? So, coming back to the Royal Rumble, there is so much sense there. to be able to do it again, ”said Triple H.
