Irwin Rivera’s family released an official statement after the UFC fighter was arrested on attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing his two sisters earlier this week.
Rivera, 31, was not said to have been behind the attack himself. Her only sister, Lezlye Campos, recognized the strange behavior and decided to take a plane to help her brother. Unfortunately, Rivera was too far away by this point and ended up attacking Lezlye and another sister, Kelly, in the middle of the night.
Rivera, who believed he had killed the two siblings, was later arrested and told police “he did it because it was his goal, which a higher power told him”.
Fortunately, the two sisters made it to the hospital on time where they were treated for several stab wounds and are expected to make a full recovery.
Despite Rivera’s unprovoked attack, both sisters remain positive and ask to pray for their brother. Lezlye posted the following statement to Facebook earlier today asking for help:
“Kelz and I are fine and we just want to clean the air and let people know it’s not about us!” We love our brother to the fullest and everyone who knows us in our family knows exactly how much we all LOVE and care for each other and knows how close we are as a family, everything we do. wish is that he gets professional mental help. he desperately needs it.
“Last weekend my brother didn’t act like him. Not sleeping or talking like him and completely losing interest in his training, which we all know what he lives for. This worried me and made me jump on the next plane ASAP to go check it out. Unfortunately, his mental stage was worse than we could imagine and before we could help him he completely broke. It is not easy for me or my family but I ask to please keep MY BROTHER in your prayers, pray that he can stabilize and come back to us because in the last 24 hours his mentality has been completely corrupted in something unrecognizable. Once again we LOVE OUR BROTHER and are 100% here to support him and try to get him that help he desperately needs!
