Georgia QB JT Daniels formalizes return, 2021 title hopes jump


ATHENS – Georgian football quarterback JT Daniels has indicated he is returning to the Bulldogs for the 2021 season, triggering more players. announcing that they are also coming back.

Moments after Daniels posted, Georgia got the good news that two more scheduled departures would return in 2021:

Daniels ‘return should set up an explosive 2021 season for the Bulldogs’ offense.

Georgia were 4-0 with Daniels as a starting quarterback in 2020. The transfer from USC overcame knee surgery in the offseason to help the Bulldogs secure late-season wins over Mississippi State, the South Carolina, Missouri and Cincinnati.

This announcement is a step in the right direction for Coach Kirby Smart’s retention efforts. Georgia have already lost at least three subclasses in the 2021 NFL Draft:

• Le demi de coin junior Eric Stokes

• Azeez Ojulari, outside linebacker for Redshirt

• Centre junior Trey Hill

The UGA is still awaiting the decisions of juniors Jordan Davis, James Cook, Tyson Campbell, Jamaree Salyer and Zamir White.

Smart places Georgia on a streak of four consecutive Top 10 finishes after an impressive victory from behind in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

The Bulldogs had their backs to the wall in the 24-21 win over the Bearcats, rallying from a 21-10 deficit to record the biggest fourth quarter comeback victory in Smart’s 5-year career as a head coach .

Daniels, who transferred to UGA from Southern Cal last May, led the team from his own 20-yard line with 1:29 left and no time-outs and into the shooting range of Jack Podlesny, who drilled the winner.

The Bulldogs’ new quarterback deflected the credit to Ojulari, Podlesny and half-back Kenny McIntosh immediately after the game on the field.

During the post-match press conference, Daniels used his platform to send a heartwarming message to teammate James Cook, who missed the match due to the sudden death of his father.

Daniels also shared the bond he has felt with his coaches and teammates since arriving in Athens.

“At this point, I feel like I’ve been here for years,” Daniels said. “Instantly when I walked in I felt a connection with the team, a connection with the way this program is run is the way I would put it. We’re all about the ball.

“Over the last two and a half months I’ve really enjoyed the time to be with like-minded guys who are all about work, the ball, the competition.

Georgia fans may be thrilled that Daniels is around another season in Athens to compete even more, starting with the Sept. 4 opener against Clemson in Charlotte, NC.

At least one NFL simulation project, from CBS Sports, screened Daniels as a first-round pick.

Daniels’ four games weren’t enough to get him listed in the NCAA stats, but here’s where he would have projected in the standings:
