Fed official calls treatment of rioters on Capitol Hill “most vivid example of racism”

A senior Federal Reserve official on Tuesday condemned in an unusually direct fashion the way black Americans are treated by law enforcement, saying that if the rioters on Capitol Hill last week had been black they would not have come out alive. .

“If it were black militants, armed militants, storming the US Capitol, I think they would all be dead by now,” Minneapolis Fed Chairman Neel Kashkari said at the meeting. ‘one of the series of events the Fed system has staged on Racism and the Economy. “This is the most striking example of racism and disparities in our society.”

Kashkari did not explain what he meant by his remarks. A number of Capitol Hill police officers were injured defending lawmakers, aides and reporters from the assault and one, Brian Sicknick, died Thursday evening. But videos have also surfaced showing a small number of officers pulling down barricades for rioters and, in another case, stopping for a photo with one of them.
