Walt Disney Studios Canada has launched a unique new marketing campaign for Marvel’s first original Disney + series, WandaVision.
Today, in all provinces except Quebec, a special “TV Broadcast Guide” features Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch / Wanda and Paul Bettany’s Vision from Marvel before its premiere on January 15th. . Given that WandaVision follows the couple living a bizarre, retro suburban life inspired by a TV show, the use of a “TV Guide” as part of the promotion is quite appropriate.
This is Disney’s latest rather specific marketing for the upcoming Marvel series. On social networks, the company is slowly promoting WandaVision through different still images and clips centered on each of the different periods inspired by the television show. Apart from WandaVision, the TV Broadcast Guide also includes The falcon and the winter soldier, which will be released on Disney + on March 19. This series follows Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson / The Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes / The Winter Soldier as they battle a new anarchist group while battling the legacy of Captain America.
Especially, The falcon and the winter soldier presents several Canadian connections; Kari Skogland, originally from Ottawa (The Handmaid’s Tale) directs all six episodes, while Port Perry, Emily VanCamp from Ontario and Saint Isidore, Georges St-Pierre from Quebec resume their Captain America film roles of Sharon Carter and Batroc the Leaper, respectively.
