The first “Jeopardy! ”Episode without host Alex Trebek aired Monday.
Following the tragic death of the iconic game show host last year from pancreatic cancer, “Jeopardy! Has chosen to field several guest hosts until a replacement is named, and frequent champion Ken Jennings is first on the list.
He took the stage for Monday’s episode and, in Trebek fashion, offered a brief monologue in tribute to the deceased host before kicking off the match.
“You know, sharing this step with Alex Trebek has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” he began. “Not many things in life are perfect, but Alex has done this job pretty much perfectly for over 36 years, and it was even better up close. ”

Jennings continued, “We were dazzled by his intelligence, his charm, his grace; really, there is no other word for it. ”
The star then appeared to be strangling temporarily.
“Like all ‘Jeopardy!’ fans, I miss Alex very much and thank him for all he has done for all of us, ”concluded Jennings. “Let’s be clear, no one will ever replace the great Alex Trebek. But we can honor it by playing the beloved game. ”
Buy-and-large, fans were overjoyed to see Jennings and were fans of her emotional post.

“Jeopardy really isn’t the same without Alex Trebek, but Ken Jennings provides * a * sense of normalcy,” a fan tweeted. “Except that I started to cry during his homage to Alex at the start of the show. ”
“It’s not me who instantly sobs during Ken Jennings’ monologue on Alex on Jeopardy,” said another.
A third added: “Ken Jennings did a great job on his first episode. He made a very touching opening statement and was very sympathetic. Alex Trebek loved Jeopardy and cared deeply about Ken Jennings. No one can ever replace him, but I think Ken made Alex proud. ”
“Ken Jennings here makes me cry,” noted yet another.
“Watching Jeopardy and Ken Jennings is awesome, but I still miss Alex,” a fifth spectator noted.

Another member of the audience congratulated Jennings for being “a nice contrast” to Trebek and offered their “vote” to make him “the permanent host”.
The final episode of Peril starring Trebek aired Friday and elicited emotional reactions from viewers.
A week ago, the iconic host kicked off an episode with a touching message of hope at the top of the show.
“Hello ladies and gentlemen, you will recall that about a month ago I asked all of you to take a moment to thank for all the blessings you are enjoying in your life,” he began. “Today, a different kind of message. ”
Trebek continued, “It’s ‘giving season,’ I know you want to be generous with your family, friends, loved ones, but today I would like you to take it one step further. ”

He called on fans to “open” their hands and hearts “to those who are still suffering” from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and “to those who are suffering through no fault of their own.”

“We are trying to build a smoother, kinder society,” continued Trebek. “And if we all intervene a little bit, we’ll get there. ”
