COVID-19: More deaths in BC Northern Health than Vancouver Coastal Health over the weekend

There are 358 people in the hospital with COVID-19, 72 of whom are in intensive care. BC Health Minister Adrian Dix said the supply of hospital beds in the province was plentiful.

Henry reported six outbreaks in healthcare facilities, bringing that total to 50 in long-term care facilities and 10 in acute care facilities (such as St. Hospital in Langley; Home Group Gatehouse on Vancouver Island; Guilford Seniors Center in Surrey; Hart House on Vancouver Island; KinVillage West Court in Delta; and Suncreek Village in Surrey.

Henry also reported a community outbreak involving more than 30 people within Canim Lake First Nation to Interior Health. Interior Health warns that COVID-19 is spreading widely in the 100 Mile House area.

Vancouver Coastal Health reported new exposure to COVID-19 at Denny’s Restaurant at 622 South West Marine Dr. on Monday between December 26 and January 5 during business hours.

Henry said that as of Sunday, just under 60,000 people in British Columbia had received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. However, supplies ran out on Monday and more are expected to arrive by the end of this week.

“We plan to make full use of all of the Pfizer vaccine we have in the province by today, and we expect our supplies to arrive in the coming days. Additionally, we are expecting an additional shipment of Moderna vaccine this week, ”said Henry.
