COVID-19 infections on the rise again in Midwestern Ontario


The results of the holiday gatherings are starting to appear. Gray Bruce’s health unit added 18 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Medical Officer of Health Dr Ian Arra said more than half of new cases are from people who contracted the virus through transmission during holiday gatherings with family and friends.

There are 59 active cases and 9 probable cases. They are associated with 178 high-risk contacts

One person is currently hospitalized and an epidemic continues at Sepoy Manor in Lucknow.

Four of the new cases were in West Gray and three in Owen Sound. There were two each in South Bruce, Hanover, Blue Mountains and Gray Highlands. And one each in Chatsworth, Huron Kinloss, and Kincardine.

Huron Perth Public Health has reported that twelve new cases of COVID-19 have been added in the past 24 hours. There are 96 active cases, down slightly from yesterday. Howick, North Huron, Bluewater, Central Huron, Perth East and Perth South each added a new case / There were two in South Huron and four in North Perth. Four people are hospitalized and 351 are isolated. There have now been 23 deaths following one death at Exeter Villa Long Term Care.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported that 41 more cases of COVID 19 were confirmed on Thursday. There are 434 active cases and five people are hospitalized. Wellington County had nine of these new cases, for a total of 73 active cases. There are two hospitalizations.
