The Department of Health has reported 16 other coronavirus-related deaths.
Their figures now show the death toll from the virus at 1,476 as of Monday morning.

Of the last 16 deaths reported by the Department, unfortunately 15 occurred within the past 24 hours and one death occurred outside of the reporting period.

Data from Monday’s dashboard also shows a daily increase in positive cases of the virus of 759 over the past 24 hours.

The total number of individuals who have tested positive for the virus since the start of the pandemic is 89,459.

And in the past seven days, a total of 9,591 have tested positive for Covid-19.

There are currently 52 coronavirus patients in intensive care units this morning.

Meanwhile, the chief medical officer has appealed to the public to adhere to the restrictions as hospital admissions increase daily.

He said: “This is the most serious time we have seen to date. Our health service will unfortunately be under extreme pressure. Over the next few weeks, we will see more and more people die.

“We said there would always be a return on investment for easing restrictions at Christmas. It was inevitable that this would translate to where we are now. ”
