City of Grande Prairie registers tenth COVID-19 death

A new case was registered in Grande Prairie County on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases to 41.

An increase of 19 cases has been recorded in MD Greenview, meanwhile, where there are now 70 active cases. Of these cases, 49 are in the Valleyview area and 11 are in the Fox Creek area.

The updated totals of cases among municipalities in the Peace Region at the end of January 8 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 899 cases (158 active, 731 cured, 10 deaths)
  • Grande Prairie County: 268 cases (41 active, 225 cured, two deaths)
  • MD from Greenview: 207 cases (70 active, 136 cured, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • Spirit River MD: 42 cases (five active, 37 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (five active, nine cured)
  • Smoky River DM: 94 cases (five active, 79 cured, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 312 cases (146 active, 160 recovered, six deaths)
  • Lesser Slave River DM: 132 cases (32 active, 100 recovered)
  • MD of Peace: 284 cases (100 active, 184 cured)
  • MD from Fairview: 55 cases (one active, 53 cured, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (one active, 103 cured, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 164 cases (72 active, 99 recovered)
  • Northern Lights County: 70 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 502 cases (26 active, 461 cured, 15 deaths)

Alberta recorded 989 new cases after 13,540 new tests were performed, creating a positivity rate of 7.1%.

Hospitalizations in Alberta continued to decline for Friday, with total admissions for COVID-19 dropping from 24 to 827. ICU admissions, which are also included in total hospitalizations, stand at 132.

There are 63 people at the hospital in the North Zone, including five in intensive care.

As of Jan. 8, the province had administered 42,333 doses of the vaccine, an increase of more than 4,600 as of Friday.
