Broadway Star and Police Academy Marion Ramsey Dies at 73


“Marion carried with her a kindness and a penetrating light that instantly filled a room upon arrival. The gradation of its light is already felt by those who knew it well. She will be missed and loved always, ”the statement read.

Born in Philadelphia, Ramsey’s career in entertainment began on stage. She has performed in Broadway shows, including productions of “Eubia!” And “Grind”, and toured the country in the musical “Hello Dolly”.

Ramsey began his television path with a guest role on the hit series “The Jeffersons,” and was a regular on “Cos”, Bill Cosby’s comedy series.

His best known role was in the 1984 film “Police Academy” as Officer Hooks, whose soft-spoken demeanor was punctuated by memorable outbursts. Ramsey starred in five other “Police Academy” films in the 1980s.

She began voice acting in the cartoon series “The Addams Family” in the early 1990s, which aired for two seasons.

Ramsey was deeply committed to AIDS awareness and lent his voice to charitable causes, performing in “Divas Simply Singing”, an annual fundraising event.

Later in her television and film career, she was featured on Adult Swim shows “Robot Chicken” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” ”

In 2015, she reunited with the stars of “Policy Academy” Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow in the Syfy camp film “Lavalantula” and its sequel “2 Lava 2 Lantula! ” the next year. His last acting role was in the 2018 independent film “When I Sing”.

She is survived by her three brothers.
