Berbatov advises Manchester United to avoid signing Sergio Ramos
Speaking to Betfair (h / t Metro), former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov said the club did not need to sign someone like Sergio Ramos because Eric Bailly was in good shape at the right time.
Bailly was benched in the 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final. However, he has impressed in his last three starts for the club in the Premier League.
Bailly played the 90 minutes against Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City. The Ivorian has cured a big headache in the back for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The club finally has a competition in defense for Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire. And now Berbatov has taken note of his performance.
The Bulgarian believes United no longer need a new defender due to Bailly’s good form.
” Yes the [Bailly] stays focused and injury free, so there can be a rock in the back of the defense.
No need for Ramos?
Speaking of Manchester United’s ties to Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, Berbatov mentions that the Red Devils don’t need him, although he would add ‘steel’ at the back.
He says the 34-year-old is still good quality and United “could do a lot worse”. However, Berbatov adds that a transfer is not necessary and that parties involved in the deal need to think long and hard about it.
“I don’t think they [United] need someone for now… both parties should think long and hard about this as the grass isn’t always greener.
