Jeopardy honored former host Alex Trebek and his impressive legacy in the popular game show with a moving tribute video that aired at the end of Friday’s episode.of pancreatic cancer at age 80.

The new video shows Trebek throughout his 36 years on the show chatting with the contestants and being his usual friend as the Peter Allen / Dean Pitchford song “Once Before I Go” plays. The video ends with the message “Dedicated to Alex Trebek: Forever in our hearts / Always our inspiration”.
The day after Trebek’s death,and a tweet that read: “Today we pay tribute to Alex Trebek. For more than three decades, he brought integrity, humor and intelligence to his role as host of Jeopardy. He will stay in our hearts forever. ”
In 2019, Trebek announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but remained hopeful. “Normally the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I will fight this, and I will continue to work,” Trebek said.
In January 2020, asked by Entertainment Weekly what he wanted to say on his last episode of Jeopardy, Trebek said, “I’m going to say goodbye and I will say to people, ‘Don’t ask me who is going to replace me because I don’t. But I’m sure if you give them the same love, care and respect that you’ve shown me over the past 30 years then they will be a hit and the show will continue to be a hit . And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye. ”
Jeopardy producers are currently testing guest hosts as the show finds a permanent replacement for Trebek., one of the biggest contenders in the show’s history, will be the first in a series of guest hosts. The episodes hosted by Jennings and other interim hosts will air from January 11.
