Originally, WWE planned for CEO Vince McMahon to team up with son Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 34 in 2018.
Kevin Owens spoke to Inside The Ropes and Kenny McIntosh from SPORF earlier today and revealed that the original plans for WrestleMania 34 had Vince and Shane teaming up to take on Owens and Sami Zayn.

“Yeah, that [feud with Vince] It was really cool, “Owens admitted.” I wish it had led to more, honestly. But who wouldn’t feel that way? I think it could have, and I think it almost happened. I really think at one point there was a chance that it was me and Sami Zayn versus Shane and Vince at WrestleMania – which would’ve been amazing – but Vince, I remember that one of the things he told me was, “I can’t run WrestleMania and focus on one game at the same time. ”

The match ended with Shane and Daniel Bryan defeating Owens and Zayn. According to the stipulation, Owens and Zayn would have been rehired at SmackDown had they won the match.

Owens and Shane started feuding in August 2017, several months before WrestleMania. Vince got involved in the feud a few times, including the SmackDown episode of September 12, 2017 where Owens hit Vince with a head butt after Vince announced Shane vs. Owens for Hell In a Cell.

« [Vince] felt his best position was not to be in the ring, you know? But it was also the perfect situation for Bryan’s return, “Owens said.” He was medically cleared and the script was already underway. He was already so heavily involved in the script already just because he and Shane were running SmackDown together, and obviously it was an amazing thing to be a part of Daniel’s comeback, especially in this building where he won the title at WrestleMania XXX, so that was awesome. ”

Vince hasn’t wrestled since RAW on October 8, 2012, where he fought CM Punk in a No Contest. He last teamed up with Shane at the 2007 Judgment Day pay-per-view, in a 3-on-1 handicap match against current WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley. This 3-on-1 game saw Vince, Shane and Umaga lose to Lashley with Vince’s ECW World Heavyweight title on the line, but Vince has retained the title since Lashley pinned Shane.
