Women punched and headed before arrest video shared thousands of times

Two women were violently assaulted minutes before a video of an arrested man was captured and shared on Facebook.
The images were quickly posted to social media after the arrest, which took place in Dovecot on Monday, November 30.

A force spokesperson has now confirmed the arrest was linked to an attack on two women with head injuries shortly after 3 p.m.

Officers were called to Thomas Lane in Knotty Ash to report that a man had hit a woman in her 60s on the head, according to Merseyside Police.

Another woman, in her 30s, was also beaten with a bottle and cut off on the head by the same man.

The attacker then left the house and threw a bottle at a car parked outside.

Shortly after, two police officers spotted a man on Dovecot Avenue who was acting aggressively.

As they attempted to arrest the man, witnesses recorded the incident and posted it online.

The 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault under section 18 and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We arrested a man on suspicion of assault after witnessing a domestic incident in Knotty Ash on Monday afternoon (December 1).

“We were called to Thomas Lane, Knotty Ash at around 3:15 pm for a report that a woman in her sixties was punched in the head and a woman in her thirties was hit with a bottle and hit on the head by a man at the address.

“The man then allegedly threw a bottle at a car outside.

“The officers came and the victim in his 30s was located with a head trauma and taken to hospital for treatment. She has since been released from the hospital.

“As a result of investigations in the area, a man was located on Dovecot Avenue, Dovecot and after being seen by police officers acting aggressively, he was arrested.

“A 48 year old man from Knotty Ash has been arrested on suspicion of assault under section 18 and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

“Investigations into the incident are ongoing. ”
