Film and television mogul Tyler Perry donated $ 100,000 to the legal defense fund of Kenneth Walker, boyfriend of black medical worker Breonna Taylor, who died in his own home at the hands of undercover officers in the Department of Louisville Metro Police, Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove. Mattingly, who was shot in the leg by Walker in the botched raid, sued him for assault, beatings and emotional distress in October.
A GoFundMe page was launched in Walker’s name to help raise funds for the legal battle against Mattingly. Perry’s generous donation was made in four separate transactions Sunday afternoon to help the fund surpass its goal of $ 100,000.
“It’s outrageous for one of the men partially responsible for all of this, to pursue the man who endured it,” the GoFundMe page said. “The raid that killed Breonna Taylor was ill-conceived, nightmarishly executed and hastily covered up. The work of the grand jury that followed was wacky and staged. Daniel Cameron’s statements were misleading at best. Jon Mattingly’s trial is the next almost unbelievable step in this ongoing legal mockery.
It continues Perry’s generous philanthropic efforts and gives back to the community. During Thanksgiving, Tyler Perry Studios distributed non-perishable food items and gift cards to families in need in Atlanta.
