Real Sociedad started the night as La Liga leaders and took the lead thanks to Willian Jose, but Barca quickly overcame the early setback thanks to strikes from Jordi Alba and Frenkie de Jong before the break.

“The first half was fantastic, we should have scored more goals. We were intense, we put a lot of pressure on them and we hit the ground, ”Koeman said at a press conference.

“Real Sociedad are great on the ball but we kept stealing it from them, we pressed them so hard. It was an open game because our opponents know how to play very well but the game was ours and it was a deserved triumph. ”

Lionel Messi had a night’s rest and missed several chances and misplaced a few key passes, but Koeman said he was happy with his captain’s pace of work.

“This is the team I want to see. Each player has played out of his skin. The biggest difference was our game without the ball today, and Messi worked really hard in that regard, pushing a lot, and everyone else too, ”he told me.

“That’s the attitude we have to have when we don’t have the ball. ”

Real Sociedad were unbeaten in nine league games when they arrived at Camp Nou, but struggled to face Barca, and coach Imanol Alguacil praised the Catalans for their efforts.

“We have seen the best Barca we have seen in a very long time, especially defensively,” he said.

“It says a lot about them and the respect they had for this game. We haven’t seen such an aggressive Barca for so long. Even Messi was diving to the ground to win tackles. ”
