There were 652 positive cases of Covid-19 recorded in the region today (Thursday).
That compares to 853 new cases added last Thursday.
The latest data from Public Health England shows the infection rate for the region to be 180.0 per 100,000 population.
It’s 33%. 100 less than last week.
It is still above the national average rate for England of 153.0 but is declining faster than the country as a whole.
It is also above London, where the rate is currently 157.2 per 100,000 population.
Week after week, cases fell 8% in the capital.
Across our region, the infection rate is declining the fastest in Salford and Oldham, where there was a 40 percent drop in cases for the week ending Nov. 29 in both regions.

The rate in Salford is now 149.5 per 100,000 population, which puts it below the national average.
Tameside, Stockport and Trafford also have lower transmission rates than the average for England as a whole.
Rochdale continues to have the highest infection rate – it was recorded at 269.8 per 100,000 in the week ending November 29.

Although Covid infection rates are declining in Greater Manchester, the region has been subject to the most severe Level 3 restrictions.
The restrictions will be reviewed before December 16, the government said.
