Southampton and Brighton will enter level 4 on Boxing Day | Football News

Southampton and Brighton will enter Level 4 coronavirus restrictions from Boxing Day following an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the region.

Both teams will not be allowed to see fans attend their home games, leaving Liverpool and Everton as the only two remaining Premier League teams allowed to allow up to 2,000 fans on their home ground.

Several areas in the east, south-east and parts of south-west England will be placed at level 4 to tackle the growing number of coronavirus cases, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on Wednesday.

Sky Sports News reporter Rebecca Williams reveals Premier League level 4 clubs are to be tested twice a week.

Hancock says cases increased across the country by 57% last week, with hospital admissions at the highest level since April.

The Secretary of Health said in this context that it is “absolutely vital that we act”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday announced the creation of Level 4 – the strictest level of regional restrictions aimed at cracking down on COVID-19 hotspots.

It came after a new variant of the coronavirus was credited with pushing the number of infections to high levels.
