The producers called Dawson just before the show’s debut, showing the actress concept art like Ahsoka. As for the timing, Filoni felt the choice was the right one.
“When I first explored the possibility of performing live actions, I asked [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy on the casting and when you knew someone was right for a role, ”Filoni said in the same interview. “She thought about it and said, ‘You just know.’ And she was right. When I first met Rosario, I just knew she was right about Ahsoka. Yes there was the tweet and her interest in the role, yes she has been in action movies and is a huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy stories, yes she knew Hayden Christensen and the pictures of them look like Anakin and Ahsoka. But in the end, when I met her and we talked, I just knew.
Hayden Christensen portrayed Anakin Skywalker in the prequel trilogy. He and Dawson went to the same acting school, Strasberg, and had the same class. Apparently they bonded, and the fans still dream to see them together on screen like Ahsoka and Anakin.
