The Washington football team were not favored to beat the Steelers in Monday’s game and anyone who thought they had a chance of a win would not have liked the way things turned out after the first half .
Pittsburgh led 14-3 at home and Washington struggled to generate much offensively in the first 30 minutes of action. They did manage to put together a long scoring spell to kick off the third quarter, however, and their defense limited the Steelers to three points the rest of the game.
They also forced a roll over on downs after Logan Thomas’ fourth quarter touchdown equalized the game to prepare for the basket and Montez Sweat hit a pass that Jon Bostic intercepted before another successful kick. From there, it was time to celebrate a 23-17 victory and head coach Ron Rivera described the scene in the locker room when he met reporters.
“Euphoria,” Rivera said, via Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USAToday.com. “These guys deserve it. We have been down for so long and we are trying to rebuild and grow. It’s something we can build on. ”
It’s now a three-game winning streak with Washington and they’ve kept pace with the Giants in the NFC East heading into next Sunday’s game against the 49ers. The odds of winning won’t be as long, but euphoria should remain a dominant emotion if Rivera’s side can continue the ongoing turnaround in Washington.
