MIAMI BEACH, Floride – South Florida rapper Zoey Dollaz was gunned down early Thursday while driving on Julia Tuttle Causeway, authorities have confirmed.
The shooting was reported just after midnight.
Selon Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Rapper Alex Camacho, real name Elvis Millord, had just got on the west lanes of Interstate 195 from Alton Road when an SUV pulled up next to his black Mercedes-Benz sedan and someone one inside fired several shots at him.
Camacho said Millord, 30, had been shot in the left leg several times.
The rapper was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment for his injuries and is now at home recovering.
A female passenger inside the Mercedes was not injured.
Camacho said the rapper immediately turned around towards Miami Beach and reported an officer on 41st Street.
Millord told authorities he was coming from a private party in Miami Beach at the time and had not had any altercations with anyone before the shooting.
Donny “Dizzy” Flores, who said he was a friend of the rapper and part of his management team, told Local 10 News reporter Ian Margol that Millord was heading to the strip club Booby Trap from Miami when the shooting took place.
“Seeing this is like crazy,” Flores said.
Flores said he and Millord were together at an all-star party in Miami Beach just minutes before the rapper was shot.
According to TMZ, singer / model Teyana Taylor was celebrating her 30th birthday. Diddy and Lil Wayne were just a few of the A-listers who attended the party.
The plan was to get some food and then meet other party people at the Booby Trap, Flores said, but Millord and the woman he was with never made it.
“He was like ‘I’m going to go to Wynwood, go get something to eat’ or whatever and meet,” Flores said. “They got to the car and shot it down. He didn’t fight with anyone. He’s not that kind of guy that he’s always at peace, looking out for everyone. He’s not into that stuff. He’s a good kid.
Flores added that the Haitian-American Millord “suffers a lot”.
“He still does a lot of things for Haiti,” said Flores. “He went to Haiti the other day to try to do a lot of things. He told me that he wanted to run for president in Haiti one day.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
