The Dutch government has banned passenger air travel from the UK to the Netherlands, effective December 20 – at least until January 1, 2021.

It comes after a mutated variant of the coronavirus, first discovered in the UK, was discovered in the Netherlands.

While air travel was already restricted, for example by the implementation of post-arrival isolation, the Dutch borders remained open. Most European countries have followed a similar strategy, requiring negative Covid-19 tests or self-isolation to travel abroad, but without completely closing borders.
