Man creates whole Christmas movie in backyard with helicopter and fake snow

A man has created a complete Christmas movie in his front garden in Wales.

Danny Hargreaves from Cardiff wows Christmas lights crowds with the festive makeover to his garden in Llandaff.

His effort was accompanied by a crashed helicopter and fake snow and even “Bruce Willis” made an appearance.

Danny’s party cave will be familiar to many residents of the Welsh capital who flock to his address twice a year to see his Halloween and Christmas decorations.

The 42-year-old has been creating dazzling decorations for the past five to six years, reports Wales Online.

He spent days turning his house into a spooky Halloween house covered in skeletons and tarantulas in October.

This year, Danny and his family have spent the past few weeks turning the house into a winter show to try and spread some festive joy and raise money for charity.

Being a busy time of year, Danny said they often add items late at night so you can imagine the shock from the neighbors when a huge helicopter appeared in the garden one morning.

There’s even a ‘crashed helicopter’ in this year’s display.

The movie buff owns a special effects company called Real SFX which is responsible for creating the special effects in shows such as Doctor Who and Peaky Blinders.

Danny said his love of film and television – along with a few favors from friends in the industry – helped make the house so spectacular this year.

When asked how he came up with the idea, Danny said, “I’ve always loved Christmas and Halloween and with everything happening this year we’ve decided to embrace it more than ever.

“When we made the Halloween house and raised over £ 5,000 I knew we were going to have to do something for Christmas.

“I work in film and television so it was natural for me to choose a movie theme, so I thought why not take some of my favorite Christmas movies and pay homage to them a bit. ”

And it’s fair to say the house definitely does.

Some of the country’s favorite Christmas movies are featured including The Grinch, Die Hard, Gremlins, Home Alone, and National Lampoon.

The Grinch is behind the wheel of the crashed helicopter in another attempt to steal Christmas, while the mischievous Gremlins rush into the house.

Danny said he usually tries to leave for the holiday season, but since that couldn’t happen this year, he decided to do more decorating than usual.

“I think we all need a little smile on our face right now,” he said.

“I think this Christmas not everyone is sure what’s going on, so I just wanted to bring joy to people in a difficult time.

“The reaction has been very positive so far. I have to say I think a few kids were late for school this week to watch it, but I have to say everyone loved it.

“It actually took me longer than the Halloween house. I have been more busy recently so it took a few weeks. I went to decorate at 11pm, so hope the neighbors weren’t too concerned. I haven’t even fully finished it. ”

And while the house itself looks amazing, the stories behind the articles are just as brilliant, some coming straight from Hollywood movie sets.

“I drew some of my contacts into film and television and ended up with some amazing items,” Danny said.

“The helicopter is from the War of the Worlds and a lot of other stuff and the car is straight from the latest Batman movie.

“I thought at first that Santa Claus crashed the helicopter, but I thought that would sound a little strange, so in the end I thought ‘who would be malicious enough to crash a plane? ‘ and it just had to be the Grinch. ”

While Danny and his partner have decorated the house in one form or another every year, this year they have decided to raise money for charity.

They are asking people to spend the money they would usually spend at this time of year by donating to charity – specifically a children’s charity called Dreams and Wishes – which is based on donations.

Themes include Home Alone and Die Hard

The charity works to support terminally ill children.

What we are trying to do is encourage a donation to this charity which will also make children smile.

“A lot of charities are really struggling this year too, so by doing that we can really help them – and it keeps me from having to run a marathon to raise money.

“It would be nice if it could inspire others to think about creative ways to raise money for charity.

“I’ve been doing this for a few years, but this is my first year fundraising for charity, which kind of gives me an incentive to go bigger and better than ever.

When asked if decorating would continue to this extent every year, Danny said, “I’m not sure it’s an every year thing, but I think at this point I sort of have to , is not it?

“It can only get bigger, but I have a whole year to think about it. ”
