Liverpool are only expected to attempt to sign one player in the January transfer window – Kalidou Koulibaly.
That’s the opinion of Reds legend John Barnes.
Barnes believes Jurgen Klopp’s side should focus on securing a deal for the much-loved Napoli center-back.
“So it would be easy to convince Koulibaly to join Liverpool, unlike some of the other top players, because he’s a person who, if he came, would go straight into the first team and play every game.
“Other than Koulibaly, I don’t think there’s anyone out there that Liverpool would seek to get in January.
“If Liverpool can’t get someone to improve the first team, then why bring in a new player?
“January is not always the best time to buy as all the best players you want to make on your squad will still be in the Champions League so it might be difficult to convince them to come if they aren’t. . play every week.
“If Liverpool are desperate and need someone, they will bring them in.
“But I don’t think Jurgen Klopp is particularly a fan of buying in January, obviously the situation determines what will happen in January if they are better and don’t concede too many goals, maybe they don’t. no need to do that.
“In January, you can spend a lot of money without necessarily improving the team.
“Can Liverpool afford to compete without additions?
“Other teams will have players who are injured, not just Liverpool players. If it’s just Liverpool players getting injured and not Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham players, that’s going to be a factor in the title race. I don’t think Liverpool will be hit harder than anyone.
