The French medical regulator announced Thursday, December 24, that it had approved the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech for national deployment.

The news follows the announcement that the European Medicines Agency announced on Monday, December 21 that the Pfizer / BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination has been approved for conditional use, meaning countries in Europe can start rolling out their immunization programs immediately.

“The vaccine can be used for people aged 16 and over, including the elderly,” says the High Authority for Health (HAS).

The European Union is preparing for a vaccination campaign of unprecedented scale following regulatory approval of the coronavirus vaccine and following today’s news, France is now considering launching its program Pfizer / BioNTech vaccination schedule on Dec. 27, according to government sources.

The total death toll in France from Covid-19 unfortunately rose above 60,000 last week.
