Photos taken from the large crowd on Saturday show hundreds of Christmas shoppers in Knightsbridge.

As they crowded around Harrods, cops have been called on to restore order as London remains in Covid Level 2 measures, to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The virus has already killed more than 61,000 people in the UK and infected a total of 1,705,971 so far this year.

At 1 p.m., Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene and formed a barrier, positioning themselves between the entrance to Harrod and the large crowd.

Cops said: “Police were called to report that a large group of people were trying to break into a store in Brompton Road, SW1.

“Four men were arrested in total – two for brawling, one for violating Covid regulations and another for breach of public order and violation of Covid regulations.

“The crowd has since dispersed. ”

Stores can stay open longer as Christmas approaches with a 24/7 option to boost retail sales after the lockdown ends on December 2.

On average, families spend around £ 700 on Christmas shopping, but a third of us plan to spend less than normal this year due to financial problems caused by Covid.

It comes amid fears that as many as a million jobs could be destroyed in a bloodbath after the pandemic ravaged retail, causing a £ 9billion blow to sales before Christmas.

People are urged to support the stores by going into a shopping spree as Christmas approaches.

The co-operative Brits have jumped at the tantalizing first taste of a return to normal life as all shops, salons, gymnasiums and pubs are allowed to reopen across England.

However, a new, stricter tier system has come into effect across England.
