Edmonton Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom to miss 2020-2021 season

Edmonton Oilers president and general manager Ken Holland has announced that defenseman Oscar Klefbom will miss the entire 2020-2021 season with a shoulder injury.

Holland said in early October that Klefbom had played with an injured shoulder for years and feared missing much – if not all – of the 2020-2021 season.

Holland added that the defender is still weighing whether or not he needs surgery and hopes to be ready for the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

The Karlstad, Sweden native recorded five goals and 29 assists for a total of 34 points in 62 games last season. He had scored five goals and 23 assists the previous season in 61 games.

Last season was the seventh 27-year-old in Edmonton since being selected 19th in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Prior to his stint in the NHL, Klefbom spent three seasons with Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League.
