Sir Alex Ferguson texted David Moyes praising the job he does, with the West Ham manager saying anyone who calls him a ‘dinosaur’ lacks intellect.

Moyes, who replaced Ferguson as Manchester United manager in 2013, will face his former club on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Scot has defended his credentials as a manager, hitting anyone who thinks he is not a modern manager who has evolved over time.

“I shouldn’t even have to defend myself. I’m sadder for people who say this because it shows their lack of intellect, ”said Moyes, when asked about the“ dinosaur ”label used by some supporters.

“Maybe on the pitch it wasn’t as noticeable as it should be. Ultimately, as a manager, you have to prove yourself. There were times when it wasn’t as good as I would have liked, but I took on tough jobs.

“I would never regret taking the job at Manchester United, but leaving Everton was an incredible decision. Sometimes it’s only when you leave that you realize how good the Everton team were and how close they were.

“We came in fourth once, but at that point there just wasn’t the investment to give me a chance to take Everton and be part of one of the big four clubs.

“I went to Real Sociedad. I’m not sure if many other UK managers have been offered jobs in any of the big leagues. I came back and took the job in Sunderland.

“I’m really in a good position because I have a great group of guys.

Moyes says he’s got his ‘mojo’ back and revealed Ferguson texted him two weeks ago after a win to congratulate him. “Sir Alex has always been very good to me,” he said. “He was very good to me at United.

“Replacing him has been a great honor. He was very fiery on the sideline and could fall with you. But he always shook your hand, gave you a glass of wine and if you needed to phone him about anything, he would always be there for the call.

Moyes has limited sympathy for current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is feeling the heat.

Edinson Cavani could make his first Premier League start on Saturday, seven years after Moyes traveled to France on a reconnaissance mission as United manager.

In the end, Moyes decided not to sign the Paris Saint-Germain forward.

“I remember at the time talking to representatives from Cavani,” Moyes said.

“The problem I had was that I had Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) who were already in that position and several other promising players. “
