Tennessee (2-6, 2-6, SEC) has two games to go in the 2020 regular season.
The Vols travel to Vanderbilt today and host Texas A&M on December 19 to conclude the regular season.

Tennessee third-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt could make some big changes to his coaching staff after the regular season ends.

Tennessee has three assistants whose contracts are expiring. Offensive line coach Will Friend, wide receivers coach Tee Martin and inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer are signed until Jan.31, 2021.

A vacant defensive line position will also be filled after Jimmy Brumbaugh is relieved of his duties during the season.

Ahead of the Tennessee-Vanderbilt game, Rush Propst, Pruitt’s former boss at Hoover High School, discussed the changes that may arise for Flight’s coaching staff after the season ends.

Propst discussed how Pruitt should decide the direction of the staff, offensively and defensively.

“I just think he needs to make some adjustments to his staff,” Propst said of Pruitt on the “Tennessee Two-A-Days” show. “I think he will. I think he will review it and make decisions. He has to decide what he wants to do. What a philosophy, what kind of offense do I want to be, he knows what he wants to do defensively, that’s not going to change. Does he bring in a defensive guy, there are a few available, to relieve him of what he’s done, to give him a chance to be more of a head football coach and focus on other areas. I think Jeremy is really good at a lot of other things, maybe from that point of view, or maybe he’s happy with all of his defensive staff. I have Todd Watson on this staff, which I know helps in some ways. Shelton Felton worked for me. I have enormous confidence in Shelton Felton. I told Jeremy two years ago you should hire Shelton Felton, he’s so good.

“Offensively, that’s where his most important job has to come. He has to decide which direction to take, but before hiring any coaches he has to decide deep in his heart, deep in his mind and soul where do you want the offense to be. Do you want to be on top of the tempo, spread yourself, swing it on the pitch and do that stuff, or do you want to be a bottom, action-game, and racing-combo game – that sort of thing. Really, it can be a bit of both. ”
