Canucks anthem singer Mark Donnelly barred from appearance at anti-mask rally


He’s long been a fixture in Vancouver Canucks home games, but it looks like Mark Donnelly last sang the national anthem at Rogers Arena.

Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini took to Twitter on Friday, responding to a Vancouver Sun. report that the Canucks anthem singer would perform at an anti-mask rally in Vancouver on Saturday.

Gatherings of more than 50 people have been banned by public health order in British Columbia since March. In November, the province extended the ban to all social gatherings.

The BC Christmas Freedom Rally scheduled for Saturday is organized in part by Ryan Kulbaba, who has led several other anti-mask rallies in Vancouver since July.

The events featured a variety of anti-vaccine speakers and decried what attendees say is government censorship and excessiveness.

Others have expressed fears that a vaccine will be made mandatory, or argued that the death rate from the virus does not justify the economic effects of the restrictions.

Previous rallies in Vancouver have also drawn believers in a range of conspiracy theories, including debunked myths that masks cause cancer or other health problems, baseless accusations Bill Gates plans to use. vaccines to implant microchips in people; and the American fantasy QAnon that claims a cabal of American pedophile politicians consumes the blood of children.
