Staff said when the man was asked to wear a mask, he became belligerent, began to curse the waiters and refused to put on the mask, even with an exaggerated cough on leaving, the statement said.

Police said that was when officers arrived to detain the man and issued him a $ 230 ticket for abusive or belligerent behavior inside a public restaurant.

Under a ministerial decree, masks must be worn by everyone in indoor public places, including when not seated at a table in a restaurant.

Failure to comply with the order may result in a fine of $ 230 under the COVID-19 Measures Act.

But it also exempts people with health conditions, physical, cognitive or mental disorders who cannot wear a mask, or anyone who cannot remove a mask on their own, including children under the age of 12. years.
