Dutch international footballer Quincy Promes was arrested for being stabbed at a family reunion earlier this year, a Dutch report said on Sunday.
Ajax striker Promes, 28, “is suspected of assault resulting in serious physical injury,” popular daily tabloid De Telegraaf said.
The incident happened during a family celebration at a hangar in the picturesque town of Abcoude, just outside Amsterdam, in late July, the newspaper said.
“A loved one was seriously injured and suffered, among other things, very serious knee injuries,” the newspaper said.
Promes reportedly got into a fight after an argument with the parent and other family members immediately arose, according to the newspaper.
The parent laid charges a month ago, he added.
Amsterdam police spokesman Jelmer Geerds told AFP a “28-year-old man has been arrested” but declined to give further details.
He said the suspect was in custody and a decision on his release on bail would be made later on Sunday.
Ajax could not be reached immediately for comment, but public broadcaster NOS said the club had confirmed Promes were not in training on Sunday.
Amsterdam-born Promes, known for his speed and technical style of play, joined Ajax last year from Sevilla FC in a € 15million transfer.
Prior to that, he played for Spartak in Moscow, where he was named Russia Footballer of the Year in 2017.
He played his first match in the Dutch national colors in March 2014 against France.
