We all have little cooking tips that help make our meals “healthier”. Maybe you augment your rice with cauliflower rice or replace sour cream with Greek yogurt. Go yourself! But some tips go a little too far and make what could be delicious. and healthy food into something that’s barely edible, as one TikTok user learned the hard way. This week, a video showing a woman rinsing cooked ground beef went viral for obvious reasons.

TikTok user Emily Harper’s video begins with her promise to teach you healthy cooking that she says she learned in her nutrition class. It all starts well with her cooking, then her ground beef draining prep (something we’ve all probably done a million times), but then things happen HAYWIRE. She pours the beef into a colander over the sink and begins rinsing it for a while. All that delicious fat is literally going down the drain.

“All that fat is disgusting,” she wrote on the post. “So get rid of it!” ”

This obviously poses some problems. On the one hand, you shouldn’t pour grease down your sink !! This can harden and gum pipes (she has since added in subsequent videos that she doesn’t do this that often!). Personally, I pour it into a mug and throw it in the trash once it cools down, but people have all kinds of methods they swear by. But what people really object to is that draining AND rinsing your ground beef will make it dry. It will take away all that delicious flavor and fat which not only tastes great but can also help you feel full.

She has since turned off comments on the TikTok, but not before it was shared on the internet, as well as “duo” by other creators, all saying pretty much the same thing: A little fat is your friend. !!!
