YouTube wasn’t technically down, but for a period there on Wednesday, users certainly struggled to view the site’s content.

Users reported that thumbnail images appeared on the site, but when they tried to play a video all they had was the spinning wheel. Some users also sent a message saying that “an error has occurred. Please try again later “. The problem is also surfacing on platforms such as YouTube TV and movies and TV shows purchased through Google TV.

According to Down Detector, users in the United States and Europe started reporting the issue around 3:45 p.m. PT.

“If you are having trouble watching videos on YouTube right now, you are not alone – our team is aware of the problem and is working on a fix,” TeamYouTube said in a tweeter. “We will follow up here with any updates. “

The site appeared to be back up and running around 6 p.m. PT, but the cause of the outage has yet to be publicly disclosed. Some users are still reporting issues, but for the most part, the issue appears to have been resolved.
