Whitney Houston was one of the world’s best-selling singers in the mid-80s and early 90s and was found dead in a hotel tub in 2012 at the age of 48.
The mother of singer Cissy Houston accepted the honor on behalf of Whitney.
She said: “I am so, very proud that Whitney is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“She wanted to be something – not nothing. She also worked hard on it.
“I’m proud of who she was.
“What can I say now? If I speak too long, I will cry. I don’t want to cry.
“It’s something Whitney always wanted.”
Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister and manager added: “I remember in 2009 we were in London. Whitney looked at me and she said, “It’s really special, but only one thing is missing: I have to get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This moment right now proves it all: there is only one incomparable Whitney Houston, and tonight she would be very proud and honored to receive this award.
Rapper Notorious BIG also promoted 2020 and his award was collected by his two grown children, T’yanna and CJ
The rapper, best known for his’ 90s hits “Juicy” and “Big Poppa,” was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997.
T’yanna said in the special, “When my dad passed away I was only 3 years old.
“Although I didn’t get to know him as well as I wanted to, through his fans and our family, I could see with my own eyes that his music transcended the hip-hop industry. He was able to become not only the “King of New York”, but also the king of culture.
Other acts to make Class of 2020 include Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, and T. Rex.
Performances from stars such as Miley Cyrus, Billy Gibbons, Don Henley and Billy Idol were also featured on the show.
