They are seen preparing to welcome the child, while Martha is about to give birth. But sirens are heard, Sean is seen running down the street and Martha’s face changes from excitement to sadness.

We see her shopping, looking vacant, her mother asking her how she is.

She then visits a lawyer, who tells her, “67% of these cases – we rarely find a satisfactory explanation. Some things medically we just don’t have the answers.

Martha is pictured on a train, looking sadly at a little girl, as her mother is heard telling her to attend the midwife’s trial.

“She has to pay for her incompetence!” she says. “We need justice here!

But Martha seems to disagree. She is seen arguing with her mother and husband, before finally taking the stand at the trial.

The film is directed by Kornél Mundruczó, written by Kata Wéber and produced by Martin Scorsese.

It is set to hit theaters on December 30 and air on Netflix on January 7.
