There were 126,742 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Saturday, according to the Johns Hopkins University data form. The new record also marked the fourth day of this week as new cases totaled more than 100,000 and the third day in a row that topped 120,000 infections, according to a CNN analysis.
The number of people hospitalized and daily deaths also increased during the fall resurgence. Experts continue to push for measures to slow the spread as they heat up, the numbers may continue to climb in the coming weeks.
“We’re really going to see these numbers start to explode,” said former US Food and Drug Administration commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb.
Sixteen states reported record COVID-19 hospitalizations on Friday, according to the Covid Tracking Project, and 22 states have reported at least one record day of coronavirus hospitalizations in November, so far.
Since the start of the pandemic, more than 9.8 million people have been infected and 237,113 people have died from the virus, according to data from JHU.
