Yeah … so UFC Vegas 15 is happening of course. Most of us think Anthony Smith will beat Devin Clark in the makeshift main event, while it’s a clean sweep for Miguel Baeza over Takashi Sato in the co-hand.
Anthony Smith vs. Devin Clark
Mookie Alexander: Oh man. Making it a five-rounder is not ideal for entertainment purposes. Clark likes to throw power without being quite so powerful, and Smith is the better forward. He’s clearly at a disadvantage on the court if Smith puts him on his back. I’m worried about Smith’s recent performances and that he gets shut down more often than not when he loses, so it’s not a slam dunk. Guess I’m not really convinced Clark becomes a suitor yet and that would be the worst loss Smith has had in a long time. Anthony Smith by submission, third round.
Zane Simon: Smith really SHOULD win this fight. He’s a much more skilled striker and grappler. He’s (surprisingly) the calmest fighter under pressure. And a better counterpuncher for miles. But Smith is still not a great fighter when the going gets tough. And Clark has a wrestling advantage, even if he only gets it sometimes. I guess Smith will start out hot and hurt Clark before Clark has a chance to rally. But, if he burns his gas tank like he did against Glover, or if he gets stung badly at some point, it could all get really complicated. Anthony Smith via TKO, tour 1.

Miguel Baeza against Takashi Sato
Mookie Alexander: At least this fight should be fun. Matt Brown’s chin may be on him, but he’s still hard to knock out and Baeza overcame a tough first round to turn his lights off in the second round. Sato is a big hitter in his own right and can be successful on the meter, but I think Baeza will beat him. Miguel Baeza by unanimous decision.
Zane Simon: Sato is the best striker, Baeza is the best main attacker. Baeza’s defense has big loopholes, but especially only when he’s under really heavy pressure. If Sato doesn’t apply it, then my feeling is that Baeza’s greater willingness to play first and play a game from a safe distance will keep him in the lead. Miguel Baeza by decision.

Josh Parisian vs. Parker Porter
Mookie Alexander: Do you remember when Parker Porter fought Jon Jones in 2008? Yeah. It was something. Josh Parisian by TKO, tour 1.
Zane Simon: Porter is arguably the more technical forward, with a clearer process and more sophisticated tools. But he’s in danger of losing anyway because he’s an undersized heavyweight without a big chin. I’m always going to choose him, because I like to cheer on the guy who brings developed play to the table, but I don’t have much faith in him. Parker Porter via TKO, second round.

Spike Carlyle contre Bill Algeo
Mookie Alexander: Carlyle is a fun fighter to watch, but he’s so wild it has already cost him in Billy Quarantillo’s fight and numbers have cost him against a composed and well-skillful opposition like Bill Algeo. Bill Algeo by unanimous decision.
Zane Simon: Algeo is a fairly well-rounded fighter with an apparently endless willingness to let go and stay in a tough fight. Against guys like that, who aren’t easy to break and overwhelm with early pressure, I can’t choose Spike Carlyle right now. He makes too many mistakes and uses too much energy in an early savage assault. Expect Carlyle to start hot and fade late, if he hasn’t finished it could lead to a very slim split decision. Bill Algeo by decision.

Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Norma Dumont Viana
Mookie Alexander: Dumont is seriously underweight and frankly I don’t see anything to suggest she’s long for the UFC. Ashlee Evans-Smith by unanimous decision.

Jonathan Pearce c. Kai Kamaka
Mookie Alexander: I remember Kai Kamaka from Tony Kelley’s fight and Jonathan Pearce getting his ass ripped by Joe Lauzon. Kai Kamaka by unanimous decision.
