Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Eric Dier’s West Brom exhibit

It’s fair to say that Eric Dier has come in for his fair share of criticism in his first 250 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.

Dier seems to have found the walk difficult lately. And there were times when supporters were – seemingly understandable – puzzled as to why Jose Mourinho persevered with using the England international as a center-back.

However, many Tottenham fans took to Twitter following their win over West Brom on Sunday to praise the 26-year-old – many naming the defender as their man of the match.

It was a fierce victory for Spurs. Harry Kane needed a late goal to give them the three points. They weren’t at their best. But they deserve a lot of credit for getting the win.

And Dier’s performance was arguably one of the main reasons Kane’s header turned out to be the winner.

He made an early block and then made a fantastic clearance from the line in the first half. If he had failed to touch the ball, the home side would have had the easiest task of taking the lead.

As shown in Whoscored.com, Dier won six aerial duels. This total was double the number managed by Toby Alderweireld. And it was the Belgian who finished second for the visitors on this front.

He also made seven clearances. Once again, he has topped the numbers in this department.

Fans are obviously hoping that Dier can continue to impress consistently. But many praised his performance against the Baggies. And they are optimistic that he has turned a corner in recent weeks.
