I admit it right away: The Walking Dead: The World Beyond made me eat my words. (Ketchup helped.) You may recall that after the premiere, I pan the second Walking Dead spin off. And even at the end of Season 1, it could still get a little heavy for my taste. But I would be damned if I hadn’t become attached to the young protagonists of the drama enough. I even watched Sunday’s two-part final largely from the edge of my seat. What made it so exciting? Continue reading …

“NOTHING IS INEVITABLE” | In an early flashback to “The Deepest Cut,” the double-header’s first episode, Huck was urged by Elizabeth to hurry up and isolate the asset – Iris, we’ve been led to believe – or the CR would for her. So Huck deliberately drove their truck off the road, leaving him with an apartment that required Felix and the Bennett girls to go in search of shelter. When walkers tangled in barbed wire fell on them, Huck took the opportunity to cut Felix’s leg off and make it look like it had been cut off in the fight. While taking refuge in a retirement home, she sucked Iris with all the subtlety of the brown-nosed office. Oh, but don’t go into that particular room, Huck said. It’s… uh… full of bodies of elders who had shot themselves in the head. No, not at all suspicious, that. Since there was no way for Felix to walk the hilly terrain that stood between the gang and the facility the girls’ father worked in, their guardian decided he had to stay behind and they could look for him. on the way back. the campus colony. (As if.)

Instead, just as Iris noticed all the red flags waved by Huck, Hope snuck into the night with her, saying Iris wouldn’t leave without Felix. It turned out that Hope had decoded the CR cipher, which revealed what a two-sided Huck was. and that everyone who was not the asset was considered – gulp – consumable. While all of this was going on, Elton found Percy alive but barely. It was OK, said the version of Percy who was conscious, if only in Elton’s mind. He could leave the body to the walkers and run away. Rather than do it, Elton fought the approaching voids and won. Then, finding a walkie-talkie in Percy’s coat pocket, Elton managed to connect with Huck, only for Percy to snatch the device out of his hand. Percy hadn’t been attacked by Silas, you see, he had been shot – and “she was the one who shot me. With that, Episode # 1 concluded with Felix discovering his gun was missing as Hope fired the gun at Huck. Nice setup!

‘YOU CAN HATE ME… AND I WILL LIVE WITH THIS’ | “In This Life” was full of flashbacks to Leo’s relationship with fellow researcher Lyla, who was apparently as trustworthy as Huck. But she must have cared about the girls’ father, at least a little, because before Hope’s arrival at the facility, she nervously practiced the speech in which she was going to reveal that she told CR what he was doing. had said about him. Hope – deep down, he’s a genius – and that they were about to be reunited for the good of mankind. Towards the end of the hour, Leo stopped Lyla before she even started her speech to share his suspicions about the CR Army. What happened to Will’s reconnaissance mission, for example? And could they be sure that Dr Abbott really left the facility to visit his sister? (Viewers know, but Leo doesn’t, that a zombified Dr. Abbott is among Lyla’s test subjects.) How could they be sure, the poor dupe thought, that the military wasn’t lying to them? He had an idea to achieve that goal, but even as the season ended, we didn’t know what it was exactly.

Picking up where “The Deepest Cut” left off, Hope aimed at Huck and made him admit she was CR. Before the questioning could go much further, walkers intervened and Hope lost the gun in the crash that followed. Afterward, Huck revealed that Leo was never in danger and that the last two messages the girls received were from her. She had assumed that Iris would try to dissuade Hope from going after their father, then Huck and the lone asset might have just taken off. Why did they have to do the trek? It was part of a master plan to get the asset – wait for it – to see the world in such a way that she understands the importance of her father’s job. (Hey I didn’t say the show was perfect, just that I came to love.) And all of that, Hope wondered, was it about… her? “Child,” Huck replied, “you have no idea who you are. People with intellects like his were going to be needed in the future – hell, if there were any. be a future. Both were absolutely not cool; Hope even turned down Huck’s Peeps offer. (That’s a major grudge here.) But they regrouped to hide when Felix and Iris caught up with them in the truck they had fixed with supplies found in the bedroom of the nursing home which was supposed to be full. of corpses. (Not sure, but I May I just reset my recording for most one-sentence exhibitions.)

‘YOU ARE NOT A MONSTER… YOU WERE NEVER BEEN | Meanwhile, because the characters on this show can’t seem to help but cross paths in the middle of nowhere, Silas has found Elton and… wait, wasn’t Percy dead? Hadn’t Silas killed him? No, Elton reported happily. Percy had just been nearly executed by Huck. Just as the trio were about to leave to save Iris and Hope, who should be riding but CR! The guys made it to the fence that stood between them and safety, but Percy then decided to play the hero, staying behind because in his wounded state he was slowing them down and leaving a trail of blood to start. “No way,” Silas said more or less. ” This is mon hero moment. He locked Percy and Elton on the outside of the door, cut off his hand, and walked over to the CR. (At least, as I feared, they didn’t shoot him on sight.)

Returning to the house Huck and Hope were hiding in, they were forced to reveal themselves to Iris and Felix, at which point all hell broke loose. Felix pulled a gun at his ex-boyfriend, Hope blurted out that Huck was CR and that leaving was the only way Felix and Iris could live, and ultimately the ex-besties engaged in a brutal battle royale. Gradually, Huck was lucky enough to run into Felix and would have killed him, even reluctantly, if Hope hadn’t threatened to shoot herself in the head. The purpose of Huck’s mission, Hope explained to Iris and Felix, had been to get him to CR Institution. “Turns out I’m smarter than I thought. The situation subsided, the sisters said a strained farewell before Huck left with the asset in tow. The next day, when Huck and Hope meet up with Elizabeth’s chopper, Mommie Dearest made it clear that she was aware of the “tips” her daughter had left untied. In the woods, no sooner had Iris finished telling Felix that Hope wasn’t the trump card, it was the Bennett sisters together, that they ran into a whole bunch of people, including Will. The lovers had a lot catching up to do!

So what did you think of the finale? The show certainly ended Season 1 stronger than it started off, right? Rate both parts in the poll below, then click on the comments with your reviews.
