The Day – France at the top of the 42nd arrondissement in front of the number of absenteeism of Ledyard


At 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, State Representative Mike France led the 42nd District House Race with 5,388 votes.Matt Geren, the approved Democratic challenger, received 3,684 votes. Rob Lawrence, a Democrat who ran for the petition, had received 55 votes.

The district includes most of Ledyard, all of Preston and part of Montville; the results did not include absentee or election day ballots in Ledyard or absentee ballots received Tuesday in Preston.

France said due to the number of registrations on election day and the pending postal votes at Ledyard, he was hesitant to make any statement regarding the outcome of the race.

As of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, the in-person turnout at Ledyard was about 52% of over 10,000 registered voters, including polling day registrations; Republican Voters Clerk Claudia Sweeney said Ledyard never had more than 10,000 registered voters.

Around 3,000 postal ballots and over 100 ballot papers on election day were also to be counted for an overall turnout of around 85%. The total turnout in 2018 was around 71.9% of 8,913 voters, and the turnout in 2016 was 83.9% of 8,787 voters.
