Tesco supermarkets have closed some non-essential sections of stores in England. The change took effect on Saturday, which means some shoppers will not be able to purchase clothing, electronics, or the like with their essential purchases.

The government has said supermarkets will not have to close non-essential sections in England, as they have in Wales.

But according to Nottinghamshire Live, any branch that sells non-essentials on a different floor from essentials closes the non-essential area.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “In accordance with new UK government guidelines that require the closure of separate floors selling non-food items, we have closed the clothing and general merchandise departments of our stores that sell these items to. from a separate mezzanine level. ”

But if the toilet or health and beauty items are on a different floor, it is believed that customers will still be able to access them.

And in accordance with government guidelines, Tesco clothing, general merchandise and mobile stores will remain open if located in the main workshop.

At Tesco, there is a limit of three items for flour, dried pasta, toilet paper, baby wipes, and antibacterial wipes, and online there are limits on certain items such as rice and canned vegetables.

And the company asks that “only one person from each household come to the store to do their shopping.”

Tesco says, “We continue to do everything possible to ensure that everyone can get the food they need in a safe environment.

“We have installed a simple ‘traffic light’ system in some of our larger stores to help us manage the flow in and out. Once in store, please stick to social distancing brands.

“If there is a line outside and it is raining, we will distribute disinfected umbrellas in our larger stores.

“Hand sanitizers and cleaning stations are available in our stores, and we continue to implement social distancing guidelines and signage. Screens are installed at checkouts to keep everyone safe, and we encourage you to use contactless payment where you can.

“When you visit our stores, please follow the legal instructions on wearing a face mask. If you forget to bring one, we have packs available for purchase at the front of our stores, which you can open immediately and pay for with your purchases later. .

“As a reminder, the police can impose fines for not wearing a face mask, unless you are exempt. “
