Guardiola was delighted with his squad’s overall performance and believes it shows the squad are poised to explode after a difficult start to the Premier League season, with City currently sitting 13th in the table – eight points behind leaders Tottenham.

“We’re on the next round and can focus on other competitions. We would like to score more but it will come and one day we will break everything. ”

He added in his post-match press conference: “Today we were much more aggressive towards goal. It’s not easy when there are nine players in defense.

“We brought our wingers closer to the attacker. All, Bernardo [Silva], Phil, once [Raheem Sterling], were so aggressive.

« [Benjamin] Mendy and Joao [Cancelo] were exceptional too. [Ilkay] Gundogan and Rodri too. In general, the performance was high level. ”

Guardiola was full of praise for his team’s pace of work, with their defensive performances barely allowing Olympiacos to score.

Particular praise has been reserved for center-half John Stones, with the England international often found outside the starting XI in recent weeks.

“Our dry cleaning was so good,” Guardiola said.

“They made long balls and we won them. Our central defenders have been exceptional.

«John Stones, [deserves an] incredibly big compliment because it’s not easy when you haven’t played for a long time and alongside Ruben [Dias] they made an incredible couple. I am particularly happy for him.

“Everyone was so committed. We attacked with more desire to shoot and score crosses. Now we are recovering as well as possible and start to focus on the Premier League. ”

Manchester City resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.
