Lisa Murkowski from Alaska took to Twitter to say Mr. Biden beat Mr. Trump fairly and told the president it was time to abandon his legal team’s efforts to stay in power.
Senator Murkowski is one of the handful of Republican politicians who recognize Mr. Biden’s victory.
“As states conclude the 2020 elections and certify the results, it behooves us all to ensure that we respect the integrity of the electoral process and uphold the faith of the Americas in our electoral system,” she tweeted.
“Every state has worked to ensure a free and fair electoral process. President Trump has had the opportunity to argue his claims, and the courts have ruled them without merit.
Ms Murkowski also criticized the president’s efforts to get Republicans in the state to ignore election results and favor his re-election.
“A campaign to pressure state legislators to influence the electoral outcome is not only unprecedented but incompatible with our democratic process.
“It’s time to start the full and formal transition process”
The Trump campaign has filed and lost a string of lawsuits in battlefield states across the country and the president and his aides have laid baseless charges of widespread electoral fraud.
The president’s team has produced no evidence to support its claims and has so far seen the claims dismissed by judges in Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Ms Murkowski was also joined in her criticism of the president by the Republican governor of Maryland.
“If you had done your job, US governors would not have been forced to fend for themselves to find tests in the midst of a pandemic, as we have successfully done in Maryland,” Larry Hogan said on Twitter.
“Stop playing golf and concede.”
