The Republicans for Joe Biden ran an ad targeting the allegedly shady financial dealings of Republican Senator from Georgia Kelly Loeffler as the reason to vote her for her resignation.Loeffler is set to face Democratic opponent Reverend Raphael Warnock in a special election scheduled for January. In January, Loeffler reportedly received information in January during a confidential briefing that the coronavirus would wreak havoc on the U.S. economy, leading it to sell shares for millions of dollars. According to the Republicans’ video for Joe Biden, these transactions amount to “cowardly corruption”.

“As America’s richest congressman with over $ 500 million, crooked Kelly Loeffler uses her money to protect herself from the law,” a voiceover said on the video.

Loeffler’s husband, Jeffrey Sprecher, is the president of the New York Stock Exchange. In August, Forbes estimated that Loeffler and Sprecher could be worth at least $ 800 million. The ad implies that the Justice Department dropped an investigation into the sales of Loeffler shares after Sprecher made a large donation to a Trump super-PAC.

“Crooked Kelly Loeffler thinks the law shouldn’t apply to wealthy people like her,” the video concludes.

Newsweek contacted the Loeffler campaign for comment. The Republicans’ Twitter account for Joe Biden has more than 2,000 followers. The Justice Department began investigating Loeffler’s transactions as possible insider trading in March. In April, Loeffler told Fox News that the controversy over his stock market transaction was the result of a political ploy.

“This was a political attack designed to eliminate the problem in question and to use this epidemic for politics,” Loeffler said. “We have addressed this issue and taken extraordinary steps to ensure that we cannot be attacked for our success. This is at the very heart of why I came to Washingon, to defend free enterprise, to defend capitalism. “

“It’s a socialist attack,” Loeffler added.

According to the Federal Election Commission, Sprecher donated $ 1 million to America First Action, a super PAC that supported President Donald Trump in April. The Justice Department dropped its investigations into the sale of Loeffler shares in May.

At the time, Loeffler spokesperson Stephen Lawson called the DOJ decision a “clear exoneration” of Loeffler. “This was a politically motivated attack shamelessly promoted by the bogus news media and its political opponents,” Lawson said.

Loeffler’s campaign against Warnock has gained national attention as the one that could decide which party takes control of the US Senate. Warnock and fellow Democrat Jon Ossoff are both expected to face Republicans in the January election. If Warnock and Ossoff win, Democrats will take control of the Senate.
